One young man had lost his job the day before the sale. He, his wife and young daughter went through their house and pulled out everything they did not need and held a yard sale in order to make enough money until he can get another job. He said this sale could not have happened at a better time.
Logan County High School was using this opportunity to raise money for their band uniforms.
And there was a church that was selling everything for whatever people wanted to donate. One man loved the idea so much he decided to sell hugs and kisses for donations. Within an hour he had made $50 and donated it all to the church then continued on his way. - Sally

STORIES THAT TOUCHED OUR HEARTS…Here are a few that were shared with us.
A mentally challenged young man in the central portion of the route baked cookies and brownies this year to raise money to go to Disney World. He has never been.
Three children in the western section raised over $200 dollars last year selling hot dogs and lemonade. I wonder how much money they made this year?
We had a mother who had raised enough last year at her yard sale to pay for her daughter’s wedding dress and was hoping to raise enough for the cake and decorations this year. Did she raise the money she needed?
There is a church in the western section of the route that raised over $10,000 this year for their unfunded school.
We had numerous people raising money for leukemia, the shelter for battered women, humane society, girls club and other worthwhile organizations.
Tell us your story. We would love to hear. Just e-mail sale@400mile.com

We started the 400 Mile Sale six years ago to help the small communities be rediscovered. Due to interstates, parkways and bypasses, people no longer traveled this historic highway and these once thriving communities who have so much to offer were dying. We thought that by holding an event along the entire route, visitors might come through and spend some money in the shops, eat at the local restaurants, and rediscover these small historic communities and all they had to offer. Thus the 400 Mile Sale was born!
The yard sales just kind of happened. And each year, more and more yard sales are setting up along the route, more and more shoppers are coming from further distances, and more and more people are getting to know their neighbors, their neighboring communities and people from out-of-state.
And people come from everywhere! Every year we have shoppers from as far away as California and New York City. We even had two couples this year who flew in from Australia and Chile! Many people plan their vacations around the sale, have attended every year and have watched it grow. They have certain stops they make each year and have gotten to be friends with many of the vendors and shop owners along the way.
Take a few minutes and fill out either a vendor survey or a shopper survey. We would love to hear back from you. And do share with us photos and stories about your experience on this year’s Hwy 68 400 Mile Sale. We would love to hear from you!

Saturday was perfect weather for the 400 Mile Sale and people came out in huge numbers to shop along Hwy 68. More yard sales popped up all day long! We anticipate a number of yard sales opening this morning with some awesome deals! A number of yard sale people were telling us that they have no intention of keeping anything. Make them an offer and its yours. Everything must go! They plan to open early and stay open until its gone. Others plan to go to church this morning and open around 11:00 or 12:00. We even had one person say he was putting a sign up first thing Sunday morning that said "Everything FREE"! Figured it would save him a trip to the Good Will. A youth group I believe in Lebanon KY is having a yard sale in a few weeks and was going around telling everyone they would take everyone's leftovers.
Not sure how many will be open today (Sunday) but one thing I can assure you, you will find some great deals!

If you are headed east, Paris is the first place one comes to out of Lexington and they have done a great job! The antique shops have been opening early and are offering some great sales. It is a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Varden's is a wonderful coffee shop which also offers sandwiches and salads for those on the go. And you don't want to miss Ardery’s Antiques Fountain/ Lunch Counter. It is the most wonderful place and allows one to shop while you wait for your food. Check it out. Paris also has a great chinese restaurant and I noticed that they now also have a mexican restaurant. Last year we ate dinner at Migdalia's. Shoppers! If you want a 5 star meal, Migdalia's is the place to go! The food is absolutely the best I have ever had. You deserve it after a long day of shopping. I promise. You will love it! - Judy
Friday was PERFECT for yard sales. We started in Edmonton at 8:00 and headed east. It took until noon to make it into Greensburg! There were that many yard sales! I bought way too much! We ended up taking Mimi's advice (see Blog below) and stopped at the Cafe in Downtown Greensburg. They have only been open three weeks but the food is DELICIOUS!
Look for the red door. That is how we found it. I don't think they have had time to put a sign up yet but people are sure finding it. I had a delicious Teriyaki Burger with a huge slice of pineapple on it and grilled onions and some of the most delicious fried zucchini. My husband had soup and a chipolte chicken sandwich. Both were wonderful! Do check it out if you are heading through Greensburg. - Debby

Alice's Concrete in the section between Paris and Old Washington has at least 40 vendors set up. Located just south of Blue Lick State Park, it's a place you can stop and shop for hours. They also serving some great eats! And do stop by Blue Lick State Park. I believe Friday night is "all you can eat fish" on their buffet. - Judy
We drove the western section yesterday. Nothing happening in Paducah but the small communities of Palma and Sharpe sure were hopping! They sold a ton yesterday. All the antique shops in Cadiz are offering special discounts. Elkton once again have outdone themselves. Everyone and their brother is having a yard sale. Stop by City Hall and pick up a map.
We found the largest group of yard sales who braved the weather were in the stretch just west of Bowling Green in the Rockfield and Auburn areas. Do check that stretch out. There were a ton set up yesterday despite the rain. I bet that number will explode today!
And don't miss the Senior Citizen Center in Hopkinsville! This is a MUST stop! They have a ton of STUFF". - Sally and Donna

What can we say....Yesterday was WET! I for one am not sure I would have had the nerve to set up. But those that did sold a lot! Hot Spots yesterday... Lebanon did a booming business especially those yard sales set up both east and west of town. At 6:00 last night, they were still going strong. They didn't have a slow minute all day. Harrodsburg was busy. I stopped by the house mentioned below with the antiques outside. They sold tons and are planning to haul more over this morning to replace what they sold yesterday. They have a huge warehouse of antiques they are moving onto this guy's front yard!
And I too stopped by Cricketeers just off Hwy 68 in Harrodsburg. You will love it! There is also a big field near Wilmore that had 20 or more tents set up and more on the way. - Debby

We discovered a great place to eat in Harrodsburg. The Kentucky Fudge Company just off Hwy 68 on Main Street across from the courthouse. It has the best grilled cheese sandwiches with mushrooms, tomatoes, three cheeses, bacon and more! It is delicious! They also have lots of different coffees, teas, salads, soups and the famous Harrodsburg burger which reminds me of my mom's meatloaf sandwich. Great place to stop. It was once the old drugstore and still has the old soda fountain and some wonderful memorabilia. Do check it out!
Do stop at 2947 Perryville Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330. He has antiques, old tools, trinkets, old glass wear, old skillets, old perfume bottles, old food bottles, old medicine bottles, old pop bottles, and a variety of other things. From Perryville the house is located 8/10 of a mile on the right from the Boyle County line into Mercer County.
GREAT SALES IN HARRODSBURG YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS!
Just before you get into downtown Harrodsburg, there is a wonderful place in front of the most beautiful historic home in which the entire front yard is filled with antiques and other items! You can't miss it! Just look for all the cars beside the road. It has tons of stuff and they keep bringing out more!
And just off Hwy 68, you have to stop by Cricketeer, the "Antique Show". It is a HUGE tobacco warehouse full with "stuff" and there are a TON of vendors outside as well. Great food too! This is one place you do NOT want to miss! - Steve
